EOTW 2012 is dedicated to the memory of long-time festival contributor, Joanne Hayward, and Cancer awareness. Joanne was the driving force behind the iconic lantern parade and a lover of music. In her honour, EOTW 2012 will be all about light, health, and dancing.
Headliners and featured performers for EOTW are nearly finalized. FM Hi Low, a huge hit at the 2010 festival, will be returning – fresh from rejuvenating their musical bliss in the hot Jamaican sun. Alseny Diallo and Kikeyambay will be performing a energetic traditional West African drum and dance show unlike anything ever seen on Haida Gwaii before.
But the music won’t stop there. Other performers are C.R. Avery, The Broken Mirrors, Road Engine Dreams, West My Friend, Aurora Jane, and The Pernell Reichert Band.
And that’s just the off island talent! Local performers are sure to impress; Out of the Blue with Brock Storry are making their EOTW debut. Honey Brown is back with new material and that same old magic. More local performers to be announced soon, along with the rich and incredible talent of our traditional Haida dance troupes.
The Edge of the World Music festival has been entertaining audiences for many years. Featuring a wonderful mix of local talent and off-island guests, this festival has something for everyone. Opening and closing with traditional Haida song and dance, EOTW music festival endeavours to bring a wide selection of musical acts – First Nations, world beat, electronica, blues, country, rock, reggae, and everything in between. In addition to that, there are fringe performers, a children’s area, a great selection of food and merchandise vendors, and amazing workshops put on by the musicians and local talent for all to enjoy.
Time to check “Visit Haida Gwaii” off the bucket list. Come experience the most memorable festival in Northern BC. You won’t be disappointed.
