August 10th, 11th, and 12th

Planning is well underway for the 2012 Edge of the World Music Festival on Haida Gwaii.  This year, get ready to dance to beats and rhythms of a wide selection of musical talent.  From African drumming to old favourites, this festival will have you burning calories on the dance floor.

It is with sadness that we will also be marking the loss of another long time festival contributor, Joanne Hayward.  Joanne, with her partner Germain, was the creative force behind the lantern parade, a parade that has become a unique symbol of our festival.  Joanne passed away from cancer suddenly this fall, and so it is in her honour that the 2012 Festival is dedicated. The lantern parade will go on, however, so look for notices about how to get involved.  All lantern workshops will be free of charge this year.

Pictures from the 2011 festival are now on our website, www.edgefestival.com/galleries.  Check out the amazing images by Jason Shafto of Full Moon Photo.  You may be featured!  Contact Jason if you wish to have any prints. Banners at the Edge

Everyone loves to have input into the types of bands that come to the festival.  This year, you can have your voice heard, without coming to a single meeting!  Visit here to see a list of the top headliner acts that we are considering.  Take a listen and leave a comment.  Your opinions will help our artistic coordinator make his final picks.

This year, the Hospitality Contract is going to tender.  If your restaurant, catering business, or group wish to feed the performers and coordinators and be loved and talked about for years to come, submit a quote by April 15thClick here for details.  Bids cannot exceed the $6500 budget.  How much of that is profit is dependent on your resourcefulness!

We are also putting the Merchandise contract to tender.  If you are a local T-shirt printer, please submit a price list and catalogue by April 15th.  We are looking for competitive pricing, as well as contemporary styles and colours for our merchandise.  Contact Michelle Brown (557-4242, or michelle@scraphappy.ca) for more details.

Our team is beginning to form, but there are still instrumental positions up for grabs.  We are looking for a media promotions coordinator, security coordinator, and fringe coordinator – to name a few.  Contact Janet at sewnart@haidagwaii.net to get involved!
